Have stayed here three times and have always been happy. There were a few very minor maintenance issues which I reported and they were fixed within a half an hour! Clean, good service, and good food. Looking to return again soon

  • Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort

We stayed here back in 2009. This resort was very nice. We enjoyed our stay, staff was helpful and friendly. We liked that it wasn't as busy as the high rise district. my only complaint was when we checked out they surprised us with a 300 bill for "utility tax". Had no choice but to pay it. Nobody ever mentioned this before hand. Kinda felt like I was being scammed. This stay was an exchange through the interval world time share system.

Don't count on the resort shuttle service, 9 out of 10 times they're a no show. We're in Eagle VIII building in the two bedroom condos (Two 1 bedroom units with connecting door) at the back of the property overlooking the golf coarse & smaller pool. Location is great - more private. Good insulation & don't hear your neighbors. Surprised to find each side of our unit has a private roof top deck/covered patio with 8 person jacuzzi, gas BBQ & wet bar. To enjoy the island you'll need to rent a car. There is no bus schedule for the public transportation. Shop car rental rates & book from home. It'll cost you $50/day plus tax for a small compact car here. We finally rented a car ($35/day) from More 4 Less Car Rental (near the airport) & they pick you up & drop you back off at the resort when you return the car. A taxi one way from the airport area is $22 or $25 on Sunday or late at night plus a tip. We have tipped everyone we've dealt with a few dollars & they are appreciative of it. As for being "One Happy Island" we haven't really found that to be the case. Most people have been curt but courteous & don't go out of their way to be helpful. The maintenance staff here at the resort are the exception, they have been great. On the topic of maintenance, the units are very spacious & nice but not well built. Its like they have had a contractor building the place without a lot of knowledge or attention to detail. Plumbing is going to cost the owners a lot of money down the road. Our unit has 4/full baths all with jacuzzi tubs & all have plumbing issues. For example, the tiles & travertine trim on the walls & floor of the shower are put in place with thin set but not grouted in plac. Some sections of the 4x4 tiles come right off the wall. The shower faucets aren't installed tight to the wall (about 1/8" - 1/4" away from the wall) & not sealed with any type of calking. I was totally worried about the water damage taking place & know eventually there will be big mold issues developing. The sink faucets were a problem also, not tight to the counters. All super nice fixtures not installed correctly. One of the ceiling fans were about to fall off the ceiling & never did stop making a loud scrapping/gridding noise even after maintenance came to fix it so we just stopped using it. The jacuzzi tub in one of the bedrooms didn't work & they never could get the push button repaired well enough to get it working. The beds, pillows & bedding are very nice & comfortable. None of the windows open, only the sliding doors & there are no screens so you can never open things up to enjoy the trade winds & spectacular weather because of the wildlife (lizards & iguanas) that want to come in. Both our units have a stacking washer & dryer which we always find nice. Overall the place is nice but not spectacular. Large infinity pool is impressive with swim up bar, water slide & ramp entry. Be prepared for the high price of everything & bring a lot of $1.00 bills. We've had no trouble using American money (US) & change is given in Florin (AWG) money. One last tip, don't buy sunscreen at the resort. An 8 oz. bottle will cost you $15 US vs. $6 US at the market.
